ISO Announces Franklin Fire & EMS Score Improves to Class 3

Post Date:01/04/2018

City of Franklin Division of Fire & EMS

ISO Class 3

I am pleased to announce that effective April 1, 2018 the City of Franklin Division of Fire & EMS has improved its ISO Public Protection Classification (PPC) to Class 3 following an analysis of our structural fire suppression delivery system.  ISO’s PPC Program plays an important role in the underwriting process at insurance companies nationwide.  The PPC information is part of the decision process used by underwriters when determining what policies to write, coverages to offer and rates to charge customers for personal, commercial or industrial property insurance.

How do we compare?  Just 74 departments in Ohio scored above us ranking as a Class 1 or 2, placing us solidly in the top 9% of fire departments within the state.  In fact, according to our ISO scorecard, we are just 3.11 points away from achieving the coveted Class 2 status.

The PPC is assigned following a review and assessment of communities’ fire department, communications and water supply system.  The new grading could result in a financial savings to area homeowners and businesses.  ISO will automatically notify its subscribing insurers of the classification change on behalf of the affected homeowners and businesses.

The increase in on-duty staffing resulting from the 2013 transition to fire-based EMS was a major contributing factor that enabled the improvement from our previous Class 4 rating.  This is our second grade improvement following the 2002 increase from Class 6.

We are very pleased to see tangible results from our employee’s efforts over the years, which includes reduced fire loss and increased financial savings for many of our residential citizens and commercial partners.  The on-going commitment to training and continuous improvement have dramatically improved the level of service that we are able to offer our residents for both fire and EMS services.  We are very proud to serve our community!
