Recreation:
Franklin and the surrounding areas offer an array of attractions to
suit all tastes. The city's 65-acre community park has a variety of
programs including youth soccer and baseball and adult softball.
Park facilities include picnic tables and shelters, a large
playground area, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a horseshoe pit,
lighted tennis courts, lighted softball fields, lighted basketball
courts, an all-weather running track, and the football stadium. The
city also maintains several smaller parks.
A year-round driving range and a nine-hole public golf course are
located within the city, and additional golf facilities are located
nearby, including those at The Golf Center at Kings Island.
Several state parks are within easy access of Franklin; Caesar Creek
State Park, Fort Ancient State Park, Hueston Woods State Park, and
the Little Miami State Park (a nationally designated scenic river)
are all nearby. Paramount's Kings Island Amusement Center and The
Beach Waterpark are approximately 30 minutes from Franklin.
The area abounds with college sports, and professional sporting
attractions including Cincinnati's Reds, Bengals, and Silverbacks
(professional soccer). The Kentucky Derby and the Indianapolis 500
are both easy drives from Franklin.
Since 1980, Franklin has celebrated Labor Day weekend with its own
Riverdays Festival.
Library: The
Franklin Public Library is a strong
presence in the community, with over 93,000 patron visits annually.
Demand for the library's services led it to extend operation hours
to Sunday afternoons. The facility has a full array of books,
videos, CDs, and magazines.
Cultural Attractions: Some of the area's many cultural
amenities include The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, The Dayton
Civic Ballet, The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, The Aronoff Center,
The Dayton Art Institute, The Cincinnati Art Museum, and the Museum
Center at Union Terminal. Two nationally known attractions, The
Wright Patterson Air Force Museum and the Cincinnati Zoo are less
than 40 minutes from Franklin.
Worship: Nearly every major denomination is represented among
the churches and synagogues in Franklin and the surrounding
communities.
Shopping: Franklin offers easy access to major shopping
areas. Two major malls are less than 10 minutes away, and several
other malls are within a 30-minute drive. Franklin and nearby
communities offer a variety of boutiques and smaller stores. Warren
County has a growing reputation as a Mecca for antique lovers.
Health Care: There are several private physicians and
dentists in Franklin, including those housed at the Conover Health
Center. Hospitals in Middletown, Dayton, Centerville, and Cincinnati
are readily accessible to Franklin area residents. HealthWise at the
Conover Health Center focuses on health promotion and health
education. The Center offers daily screenings for blood pressure,
glucose, and cholesterol and weekly mammography screening. Many
other tests, screenings, and classes are offered throughout the
year.
Housing: Franklin's housing is quite varied and affordable.
Single family homes are available in a variety of price ranges, from
starter homes to new homes approaching approximately $300,000.
Apartments and senior citizen housing are also available. |
