Electricity and
Natural Gas: The
CINERGY
services the area with a 4454.25 megawatt capacity from six power
plants and provides 393,000 customers with natural gas service.
CG&E's electric-generating efficiency is ranked nationally in the
top twelve for investor-owned utilities.
Telecommunications Service:
SBC currently
provides state-of-the-art telecommunications service to the Franklin
area. Franklin has Local Calling Plus to the bulk of Dayton's
exchanges. Recently, the City worked with other local jurisdictions
to obtain two-way flat-rate calling between the Franklin exchange
and the Dayton exchange and between the Franklin exchange and the
Centerville exchange. The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO)
ordered Ameritech to provide this service which should save area
residents approximately $1,000,000 per year in Local Calling Plus
charges. The two-way flat-rate service should be in effect by the
end of 1998.
Refuse:
Rumpke provides residential pickup
as well as a curbside recycling program. Several haulers provide
commercial/industrial service.
Water Supply: Franklin generates, on a yearly basis, an
average of 2.5 million gallons of water per day. The City currently
has 5 wells with the capability of pumping 7 million gallons per
day. The water is pumped to a 5 million gallon per day water
treatment plant owned and operated by Earth Tech. At the plant, we
remove the iron and manganese from the water, purify with chlorine,
and add fluoride. The water quality presently meets all ground and
surface water requirements. From the plant, water is pumped to 4
storage tanks with a total capacity of 5 million gallons.
Taxes: The effective property tax rate per $1000 of property
valuation is $35.50 for residential property and $37.96 for
commercial property. The city imposes a 1.5% tax on gross personal
income and net corporate profits. A 1.5% credit is allowed for
residents of Franklin paying income tax to another city.
Television: Cable service is provided by
Time-Warner Cable. Broadcast
stations representing all networks are available from Dayton and
Cincinnati. |
