Jonathan Westendorf began serving the City of Franklin, Division of Fire on September 18, 2000 as Fire Chief. Professional affiliations include service as President of the Warren County Fire Chief’s Association. Chief Westendorf also serves on many boards and committees including the Metropolitan Medical Response System, Safety Council of Southwestern Ohio, Warren County Emergency Communications Workgroup, the Warren County Fire/EMS Monument Committee. Chief Westendorf is a proud member of the International Fire Chief’s Association, Ohio Fire Chief’s Association, and the National Fire Protection Association.
A student of the University of Cincinnati Fire Science Degree Program, Chief Westendorf has completed numerous courses of study and specialty to benefit our community.
Chief Westendorf is Accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress and the State of Ohio as Firefighter I, II, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, and Fire Inspector I.
Chief Westendorf is also a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician- Paramedic certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Trauma Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and the American Academy of Pediatrics as a Pediatric Education for Pre-Hospital Professional. Chief Westendorf was also certified by the Counter-Narcotics Tactical Operations Medical Support Program as an Emergency Medical Technician- Tactical EMS Provider.
Chief Westendorf has also completed extensive training from the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials- International as a Basic Telecommunicator and Power Phone Fire Service Dispatch Crisis Communications Training Program.
Chief Westendorf also holds certifications in several specialized areas of rescue including Confined Space Entry/Rescue, Rope Rescue Technician I, II, & III., Trench Rescue & Shoring, Emergency Building Shoring, Mobile Hydraulic Crane Safety Training and as certified Public Safety Diver & Med-Dive Specialist.
Chief Westendorf has completed courses of study from the University of Maryland’s National Fire Service Staff and Command Course, National Fire Academy Challenges for Local Training Officers, Incident Safety Officer, Managing Company Tactical Company Operations- Decision Making, Leadership I, and several command schools and Incident Management Skill and Unified Command seminars and symposiums throughout his career. He has also completed study through the Texas A&M University System for the US Department of Justice’s Office for State and Local Domestic Preparedness Support for study in Weapons of Mass Destruction: Incident Management / Unified Command Course.
Chief Westendorf has also been recognized for efforts in natural disasters including the floods of 1997 in Adams County Ohio and Falmouth, Kentucky Water Rescue, and rescue, recovery and restoration duties following the Tornado’s of 1999 in Northern Hamilton County, and Southern Warren County.
Chief Westendorf has served as a Firefighter/EMT with the City of Blue Ash Fire Department, Lieutenant, Paramedic, Training Officer with the Loveland- Symmes Fire Department, Division Leader with Hamilton County Task Force One, a Regional Rescue Team, also serving as a Police, Fire/EMS Dispatcher and 911 Call-Taker for the Deer Park Police Department and NorthEast Communications Center.
