The Public Works Department is
comprised of several departments. They include the Street
Department, Water Department, Sewer Department and Parks and
Recreation. The Public Works also oversees the contract operations
of the Water Treatment Plant operated by Earth Tech and the
Wastewater Treatment Plant operated by U.S. Filter.
The Public Works Department is
under the leadership of Public Works Director, Sonny Lewis.
Public Works Mission Statement is
very simple, "Always at your Service."
Street Department
The responsibilities of the Street Department changes with the
seasons and is never ending. With over 110 lane miles of
streets, 10 ditches, 20 Traffic Signals, 5 miles of guard rail and
over 2000 Traffic Signs our daily plan is sometimes changed
hourly.
The Street Department is
responsible for the following:
- Snow and Ice Removal
- Pavement Maintenance, such as
pot holes, crack sealing and paving.
- Maintenance of City Facilities
and repairs.
- Pavement Markings
- Street Sweeping
- Removal of Dead Animals with in
City Limits.
- Storm Water Maintenance, such as
ditches, catch basins and inlets and outlets.

Water Department
The Water Department is responsible for providing a safe and
dependable supply of drinking water. We work on a daily
basis along with Earth Tech who owns and operates the Water
Treatment Plant to assure the customer that the quality of water
entering your home is safe and poses no health risk.
The Water Department is responsible
for the following:
- Repair of Water Main Breaks
- Maintaining over 670 miles of
water main (1 inch thru 24 inch)
- Reading 4500 water meters on a
quarterly basis
- Installation of residential
services
- Repair of Fire Hydrants
- Maintenance of 5 high Production

- Maintenance of 4 Water Towers

Sewer Department
The Sewer Department is responsible for maintaining over 50
miles of sanitary sewer and over five miles of sanitary force
main. We also check and maintain four sewer life stations
that carry sewer to the Sewer Plant.
The sewer plant located on Baxter
Drive is owned and operated by U.S. Filter and provides services
for Franklin, Carlisle, Germantown, Franklin Township, Warren
County and Montgomery County. Just recently the Hunter area
has started discharging to the waste treatment plant.
Alwats call the Sewer Department
first if you have a back up in your house. We will come out
and assess if the problem is in the main line or the home owners
lateral.
