Streets
The responsibilities of the Streets Division change with the seasons and are never ending. With over 110 lane miles of streets, 10 ditches, 20 Traffic Signals, 5 miles of guard rail and over 2000 Traffic Signs, the Division’s daily plan is sometimes changed hourly.
The Streets Division is responsible for the following:
- Snow and Ice Removal
- Pavement Maintenance, such as pot holes, crack sealing and paving.
- Maintenance of City Facilities and repairs.
- Pavement Markings
- Street Sweeping
- Removal of Dead Animals on streets within City Limits.
- Storm Water Maintenance, such as ditches, catch basins and inlets and outlets.
- Road Cut Permits
Road Cut Permits Right of Way Permit
A permit is required to make any cut on or in a City street or right-of-way. The permit fee is $37.50. Please contact Kim Vanover at the Public Works Department, (937) 746-5001 or kvanover@franklinohio.org to obtain your permit. Regulations regarding road cuts are contained in Chapter 901 of the City’s Codified Ordinances.
Snow Removal from Sidewalks
Per City regulations, it is the homeowner’s responsibility to keep the sidewalks, curbs and gutters on his or her property in repair and free of snow, ice, leaves, grass clippings, debris, trash or any other nuisance.
Report a Street Light Outage
To report a street light outage, you can contact Duke Energy directly at (800) 544-6900, or you can contact the Public Works Department at (937) 746-5001 and we will pass on the information to Duke Energy for you. Please have details about the exact location of the street light that is out or what the specific problem is when you call.
Report a Pothole
To report a pothole, please submit our Street Repair Request form, call the Public Works Department at (937) 746-5001, or e-mail the Public Works Department at mgeorge@franklinohio.org or kvanover@franklinohio.org. You can leave a message at the Public Works Department after hours. Please give details about the exact location of the pothole when you contact us so that we can get the problem corrected.
Report a Traffic Signal Problem or Damaged Traffic Sign
To report a problem with a traffic signal, pedestrian crossing signal or damaged traffic sign, please contact the Public Works Department at (937)746-5001 or e-mail us at mgeorge@franklinohio.org or kvanover@franklinohio.org, Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. On weekends, holidays, or after hours on a weekday, please contact the Franklin Police Division at (937) 746-2882.
Report a Damaged Street Sign
To report a damaged street sign, please submit our Street Repair Request form, call the Public Works Department at (937) 746-5001 or e-mail the Public Works Department at mgeorge@franklinohio.org or kvanover@franklinohio.org. You can leave a message at the Public Works Department after hours. Please give details about the exact location of the damaged sign (i.e., intersection) when you contact us so that we can get the problem corrected.
Driveway, Sidewalk and Curb Permits Driveway, Sidewalk and Curb Permit
A construction permit is required to construct or repair any driveway, sidewalk or curb. For questions about the permit application, please contact Amber Copenhaver 937-993-0842 or email acopenhaver@franklinohio.org. If you need a construction permit, please contact the City’s Division of Building & Zoning at (937) 746-9921. The City’s construction specifications for sidewalks and driveways are contained in Chapter 905 of the Codified Ordinances.
