Safety Improvement at SR 123 and Beal

Warren County (Thursday, July 6, 2023) – A safety improvement project on state Route 123 in Franklin is set to begin, with construction beginning in earnest next week.

Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will be reconstructing the intersection of S.R. 123 and Beal Road to eliminate the skewed angle at the intersection with Beal and Shotwell Drive.
The project will also include construction of a westbound left-turn lane and replacement of the bridge on Beal Road over Clear Creek tributary (Gills Run) to accommodate the roadway re-alignment and widening. A new traffic signal with a pedestrian signal and emergency vehicle preemption will also be installed at the intersection.
On Wednesday, July 12, crews will close Beal Road immediately east of S.R. 123 to replace the existing structure with a box culvert and begin realignment work. The closure will be in effect for up to 120 days, and while Beal Road is closed, motorists may detour by way of S.R. 123 and McLean, Dearth and Weidner roads.
The Double Z Construction Company was awarded a contract for approximately $1.81 million to complete the project, and all work is scheduled to be completed in June 2024.
